Houston Audubon Society's Smith Oaks Bird Sanctuary-High Island
The Houston Audubon Society manages a group of great Birding locations in the High Island, Texas area. In March-May the rookery at the Smith Oaks Bird Sanctuary offers fantastic opportunities for great images (at least with a reasonably long lens). The nearby Boy Scout Woods Sanctuary provides great birding opportunities for warblers and other smaller birds-especially in the spring when migrating birds travel through on their way to the north and east.
While not a National Wildlife Refuge, I am including this gallery with the other NWR galleries because of the similarities.
