Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge
Thousands of Sandhill Cranes, Geese and Ducks spend the winter at the Bosque del Apache NWR and become accustomed to photographers. We stopped at there for only a few hours in 2008 and knew we needed to return when we had more time. We finally made it back in January, 2011 and had a great time and got a lot of great images. After we returned home we learned a severe winter storm was going to pass through the area so I drove all night to beat the storm. It turned out to be one of my best trips ever! Although the temperature hovered near zero, and sometimes below, the combination of birds and snow made for some great images. I plan on returning again next year!!! I was able to stop for just one evening and one morning at Bosque del Apache in January 2012 but got some of my best images yet! I love this place!!!

Northern Harrier (Female)
This Northern Harrier flew across the road in front of me and landed on the far side of a nearby irrigation ditch. I waited 15-20 minutes with my finger on the shutter button and for once I captured the image I wanted!
