Vacation 2007-Independance Rock-Wyoming

Independence Rock is located about an hour southwest of Casper, Wyoming and was a significant milestone for the wagon trains traveling west in the 19th century. The pioneers would carve their names in the rock-I guess today we would call that graffiti... Many of those names are still visible today although most are faded and difficult to read. I have adjusted the levels of the images showing the names so they are easier to read. There is also more recent carvings and it is difficult to tell if some may be fakes. Either way, Independence Rock is an interesting landmark.

  • Are these over 150 years old? The weathering indicates at least some may be.
