Southern Wyoming

Day 12 found us waiting in Loveland for our Jeep to be returned to us and we received it late in the afternoon. We then drove to Laramie, Wyoming and spent the night. Unfortunately, we did not have the chance to do any photography that day. We got up the next morning, Day 13, and found it to be a cold and dreary day with light snow showers through most of the day. We drove to Rawlins and then back to Loveland, Colorado for a minor adjustment to our Jeep's Transmission. While it was beautiful country, the light just wasn't right for much photography. We did manage a few shots and I have posted some of them here.

Wyoming

  • We left our hotel in Laramie and drove west on US30/US287 and soon came upon this scene.
  • The clouds hung low over Elk Mountain and I really liked the way it looked.
  • We stopped at a rest area on Interstate 80 after passing Elk Mountain to take a quick break and found there was a road that led into the Wick Beunee Wildlife Habitat Management Area. We quickly decided to check it out and found it to be a pretty place. There was some snow on the ground and it seemed as soon as we dropped down the hill after turning on the road we were in the middle of nowhere. Here is what we saw as we drove south from the roadside park.
  • We turned around at this old log cabin and headed back toward the roadside park.
  • Another view of the log cabin.
  • Another view Elk Mountain from the Wick Beunee Wildlife Habitat Management Area.
  • I especially liked the purple color of the plants at the base of the hill. I used six separate images to create this panorama showing Elk Mountain in the background. It was then back on the freeway where we returned to Loveland to have a slight adjustment done to the Jeep's transmission before heading for New Mexico.
