Lost Maples State Natural Area is near Vanderpool, Texas and the maples create a splash of color every autumn. Unfortunately, we were there on a cloudy day and the most of the colorful leaves had already fallen. We walked the 4.6 miles East Trail which includes the Lost Maples Loop which still had a few colorful trees. The trail was VERY, VERY steep and rugged in places and we were sore from head to toe by the end of our hike.
