Monument Valley

Monument Valley is not a National Park but it is a Tribal Park for the Navajo Nation. It is a beautiful park and these pictures in no way do it justice, it really must be seen in person. We stayed in The View hotel which has a fantastic view of the valley.

Monument ValleyArizona

  • This image shows "The View" hotel. Our room is one of the center rooms on the second floor.
  • I took this image a short distance from our room. The two monuments on the left are called The Mittens. The road shown in this image is the beginning of the 17 mile loop that goes through a portion of the valley.
  • The 15 mph speed limit is difficult to maintain because the road is actually much worse than it appears.
  • This is a 5-image HDR image taken from our room's balcony just after sunrise.
  • For those that don't want to drive the loop themselves they can pay for a tour in a truck like the white one shown here.
  • Here is a closer view of the tour vehicles. The road is rough and the drivers drive way over the 15 mph speed limit. Be sure to wear lots of padding if you ride one of these!
  • The view from this location was one of the best of the entire 17 mile drive.
