Canyon de Chelley National Park

Canyon de Chelley National Park is located near Chinle, Arizona. We stopped by the park on our way home from Monument Valley and found it to be very pretty. We didn't have time to visit the inside of the Canyon but we did take some pictures from the canyon walls. Much of the Canyon is used as farmland by the local Navajo Indians and some even live in the Canyon. Here are a few of the images I captured.

  • Here is one of the many overlooks.  The canyon is about 700 feet deep at this location.

  • Private Jeep tours are available, for a fee of course, and the Jeeps drive in the river.  Enlarge this image to the "O" (original) size and look at the light color speck near the center of the image and you'll find it is a jeep.

  • There are several ancient Anasazi Indian ruins in the canyon and one if visible at the base of the canyon wall near the right side of this image.  The following image has a closer view of those ruins.
